Forum to Research Factors Impacting Early Learning Environments

The Children's Forum is conducting three projects for the Head Start State Collaboration Office which are focused on factors impacting early learning environments including child transitions, staff turnover, and teacher preparedness. These projects include:

Forum to Assist Refugee Women in Broward with Opening Family Child Care Home Businesses

The Children's Forum was recently awarded a grant from the U.S. Administration for Children and Families, Office of Refugee Resettlement to operate a Refugee Home-Based Childcare Microenterprise Development Project (RCCDP) in Broward County. Through this grant, the Forum will provide mentorship, training, assistance, and funding to help refugee women open their own family child care home business and offer high-quality early care and education programs to other refugee families. The Forum currently operates a successful RCCDP grant in Miami-Dade which will serve as a model for this new effort in Broward County.

Erika Frisby    

Erika Frisby
As a T.E.A.C.H. Counselor, Erika provides career development counseling, coursework oversight, and ongoing support to T.E.A.C.H. scholars. She also serves as a liaison with community colleges and other educational entities. Erika participates in Mixed Martial Arts and is a former member of the Tallahassee Roller Girls, a competitive roller skating team.

     
Camisha Hodge  

Camisha Hodge
Camisha is a T.E.A.C.H. Assistant and performs clerical duties as associated with program recruitment and administration of the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship program. In her spare time, Camisha enjoys cooking (curry chicken is her specialty) and traveling (her favorite destination is the Cayman Islands).

     
Angela Nathan  

Angela Nathan
As a WAGE$ Counselor, Angela assists child care professionals with receiving education-based salary supplements. She enjoys spiritual dance, spending time with her daughter and shopping, especially for purses and shoes.

Quality Improvement Specialists in Miami-Dade County

As Quality Improvement Specialists (QIS),Madelin and Aymara recruit child care professionals for participation in the training Registry and assist them in developing career goals as well as accessing educational opportunities to improve their knowledge, skills, and abilities in working with young children. In addition, QIS provide assistance to directors and staff of early childhood providers. They are employed at the Quality Counts Career Center in Miami-Dade County as part of a grant through the United Way Center for Excellence.

Madelin enjoys reading romance novels, has a travel goal of visiting one new country or state each year, and enjoys all things Disney.

Aymara Aguiar
Aymara loves her role as a trainer for ECE practitioners, likes to travel with her family, and believes the key to success is to remain positive.
